The Task

This task is designed to give you a taste of the kind of briefs we see on a daily basis. We are interested in your creative interpretation of the brief, as well as your research and presentation skills. Please include a response to one of the below briefs in your application for the Account Manager along with your cover letter.

Brief 1

A major superhero film franchise is looking for a villain’s lair for their next big blockbuster. The production is in its early stages, so the location manager has no fixed idea of what it should look like yet. The only direction they have given is that it needs to be interesting and unusual, and it has to have a feeling of secrecy about it. Practically, they need it to be within the M25 and with good options for a unit base to service the shoot.

Brief 2

A music promotion company is looking for a location for a new boy band music video. The song is about heart break and the theme of the video is disappointment on Valentine’s Day. They want to film the lead singer in a deserted romantic venue; as though he has been stood up on a date and is the only one in the building. It shouldn’t feel cheesy but interesting, dramatic and authentic. It must be believable that this cool band guy would have chosen it. It needs to be large enough to amplify the sense of desertion.

Guidance on the Task

  • You are welcome to treat this as an online research task and are not required to scout the location in person (you will not score extra points for doing so). However, if you do decide to scout in person, please only photograph public spaces/buildings and ensure you seek the necessary permissions where applicable.
  • Please do not enter decommissioned or derelict sites, or put yourself at risk at any time
  • You may present your chosen location in any format you wish (bear in mind that we work on PC not Mac)
  • Please provide:
  • A selection of images of your chosen location
  • An explanation as to why you have chosen it and why you feel it meets the brief

Your thoughts on the logistics of shooting at this location (How would the production team get there, where would they park a unit base, where would they access power, what toilet facilities are available etc)

Thank You
